Wedesday 23rd September - walks **** – River Orwell to Wherstead Church for a picnic – sunny morning then clouding over.

Another top day, I did have one eye o the wind but it was moderate at best and turning NW which is offshore so I quickly gave up the idea of windsurfing! Mag and I had breakfast in a sunny back garden with some wispy cool clouds before doing my exercises, warm it was too. Mag suggested she would like to go to her favourite nursery at Bourne Bridge in Wherstead so I packed a picnic and we drove over to Ipswich parking near Foxes marina at 12.15. The footpath to the River Orwell goes through the boatyard where we spotted a lifeboat and a pilot boat having work done. We walked towards the Orwell bridge and Mag spotted a boat heading towards us and we were amazed when the Steam paddle boat, The Waverly was slowly making its way to Ipswich with the help of a small tug, we couldn’t believe our luck! The Waverly passed under the bridge at 12.30 and we watched it head past Ipswich docks turning just short of the lock gate before mooring up in readiness for picking up passengers for tomorrows trip to London I think, perhaps we will watch pass at Landguard tomorrow! After the excitement was over we continued under the bridge and up to Suffolk Food Hall and up the hill to the lovely Wherstead Church with stunning views down to the River Orwell with the impressive bridge where we sat on a seat to enjoy our lunch! We return the same way, Mag heads to the nursery while I pick up the van and drive to meet her where she buys several plants for her new look back garden where all our grass has disappeared! We then have a bonus hour with Maeva rounding off a top day!
